We undertake home visits and regularly give advice on sourcing paintings for specific locations and projects. Paintings enhance the character of a room, and really set the tone. A home visit allows us to get the feel of both the client's taste, and the character and period of their home.

We are also happy to consult on picture hanging and lighting, borne out of visiting too many properties where it seems beautiful paintings are neglected, as they are often hung in the wrong place, or where not enough thought has been given to lighting. The aim is to find a painting of true merit, that will stand the test of time, and enhance a room.

Most recently we have undertaken projects with Dunning & Everard Interior designers, and Sophie Head Interiors.

Two Case Studies

Old & New Meet in a Georgian Rectory

Josie has been working over the past year with an interior designer and her clients who are renovating a beautiful Georgian rectory in Hampshire. Her role was to find new, exciting pieces that could be added successfully to an existing collection of some wonderful paintings – both inherited and contemporary. Juxtaposing old and new within the design scheme required thought and ingenuity. The clients were delighted with the result, so much so that they asked Josie to work on their new flat in central London. Here there was a very different feel and after much consideration it was agreed that just one contemporary painting would be needed as long as it had ‘real soul’. After much time searching Josie unearthed a work by an artist, new to the gallery, that the clients really loved and judged to be perfect in place.

A Collection Meets its New Home

Recently, a young couple, who had just moved into a town house in Winchester, visited the gallery. Keen London gallery goers, they had been collecting for some years, but now with more wall space than before, they were seeking help in placing their collection and adding new works. Josie has become familiar with their home and, having discussed the styles of contemporary art they like, finding pieces that can work well in their collection is underway. This assignment will take quite some time, but Josie sees it as ‘Very rewarding as one gets to know them well. It’s exciting sending new ideas after the studio visits. This way they see works especially picked out with regard for their home. They are also fans of some of our well established artists and are commissioning tailor-made pieces’.

Refining Your Collection

Josie Eastwood has just celebrated 20 years of involvement in the art world that has included working in British Paintings at Sotheby’s, and managing a well-known London gallery. In her own art gallery she now holds four exhibitions each year showcasing works by both established and emerging contemporary painters, sculptors, and ceramicists. The gallery has built up a loyal following that grows year by year. Josie’s art advisory services are frequently sought by private collectors who are expanding or rehanging collections and by many who are starting a contemporary collection. She also frequently works closely with interior designers.

It is fabulous to work with Josie, who understands interiors and the placement of art to complement an interior design project. My clients have been extremely happy with the variety of beautiful pieces that Josie has selected for various projects. She has a talent for choosing new and exciting artists, and it is always a great pleasure to visit the gallery in Hampshire, where in a calm atmosphere you can select from a large and varied collection the perfect piece.
